Information
and History
When Jacob Lamers, Sr. started Lamers Dairy in 1913,
raw milk was distributed to the villagers in preserve cans and delivered
to
the
customers as
members of the family went to school in the morning.
The following year, they began using a horse and buggy as the milk
cart, until 1919 when the first truck was purchased. Dairying was becoming
a full-time operation by 1926 when another truck was added to help
with
the service to customers.
Richard C. Lamers and his wife Emma (Vandenberg) Lamers purchased the
business from his father August 1, 1930, and the dairy was moved
to John Street in Kimberly, Wisconsin.
The first milk bottles imprinted with the Lamers' name were introduced
in 1931, the first mechanical refrigeration in the village was installed
in 1932, the hand operated filling of bottles gave way to automatic equipment,
and just a year later, the Lamers installed equipment to pasteurize the
milk. In 1941 Lamers Dairy introduced homogenized milk to the village
and also doubled the size of the building.
In 1950 the building was expanded again and a laboratory was installed
for quality testing of all dairy products. It was at this time that Rich
and Emma's son, Richard Jr. joined his father in the business.
All eight of Richard, Jr. and Barbara's children worked in the family
business as they were growing up, and today six of the children remain
actively involved. In 1998, the business was moved to the current location
on Speel School Road in Appleton, Wisconsin. Home | Product
